Africa Preparations for WWF6, Banjul
In preparation for the 6th World Water Forum (WWF6), on "Time for Solutions", Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, MEWINA, CEDARE, and WWF6 Africa Target 3 Coordinator participated in the stakeholders preparatory meeting organized by the African Ministers Council On Water (AMCOW) during the period 19-21 of December, 2011, in Banjul, The Gambia.
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, presented the WWF6 Africa Target 3 report prepared jointly with Eng. Mohamed Elrawady, CEDARE. Africa Target 3 calls to "Conduct Regional Dialogues on the 1997 UN Convention on International Watercourses and on the UNGA Resolution 63/124 on the Law of Transboundary Aquifers, and compile points of agreement and objections for wider consensus by 2015".
The report presents African countries and experts standpoints on the above mentioned legal instruments, and presents proposed solutions to reach a wider consensus. The report will be posted on www.solutionsforwater.org and will be open for the public to submit their solutions until January 25th. A technical session to discuss the topic will then be conducted at the 6th World Water Forum which will be held in Marseilles, France, March 12-17, 2012.
Africa sets Water Targets for commitment at the 6th World Water Forum
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, CEDARE Water Program Manager, and officer in charge of North African Ministers Council On Water (N-AMCOW) secretariat participated in the multi-stakeholder committee meeting held in Cape Town, March 21, 2011,to formulate Africa's Targets to be presented at the 6th World Water Forum. Nine African Water Targets were formulated as follows:
AMCOW TAC Meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, CEDARE Water Program Manager, and officer in charge of North African Ministers Council On Water (N-AMCOW) secretariat, attended the AMCOW Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, March 21, 2011, where the AMCOW Governance Document was reviewed for further revision, and where the Global Water Partnership (GWP) joint Climate Change & Water program with AMCOW was discussed. The first phase of the Climate Change program will start in 8 countries in Africa including Tunisia from North Africa.
CEDARE/N-AMCOW participates in the Africa Preparatory Meeting for the 6th WWF, South Africa
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, CEDARE Regional Water Program Manager, and Officer in Charge, North-AMCOW Technical Secretariat, participated in the AMCOW Consultative Meeting for Africa in preparation for the 6th World Water Forum (WWF) which will be held in Marseille, France, in March 2012. The meeting was held on the 20th of March during the celebrations of the World Water Day in Cape Town, South Africa, during the period of 20-22 March, 2011. The meeting was attended by the AMCOW TAC members and sub-regional secretariats, as well as other experts and the five Vice Presidents of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW), represented by the Ministers of Water from the 5 sub regions of AMCOW in Africa.
