CEDARE Participates in the AUC’s African Water Sector M&E Steering Committee meeting

Heading for Kigali, Rwanda, Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, NAMCOW Officer-in-Charge and MEWINA’s Regional Coordinator, will be participating in the AUC meeting for African Water M&E Steering Committee held on March 12th & 13th, 2014. The delegation will be led by H.E. the AU Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture together with H.E. the Minister of Water Resources of Nigeria, who is currently  the interim President of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW).  

The objective of the meeting is to deliberate on the 10 AU member states that will benefit from the Kagame WASH Action Plan till 2015. The Action Plan, which came in response to the January 2014 African Union Assembly Decision AU/DEC. 516 (XXII) on the implementation of Sharm El-Sheikh Commitments for Accelerating the Achievement of Water and Sanitation Goals in Africa, particularly aims to providing at least 5 million people in rural areas over 10 member states of water supply and sanitation services.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss the sub-regional coordination of the next round of the African Water Report preparation to the January 2015 Assembly.
